In the video, Ayla hopes that every student will succeed. As an education major, Ayla wants to change the world. She uses her own experience to talk about student-centered learning and how it changes the lives of everyone.

In the traditional “teacher-centered” model, teachers are the protagonists of the classroom. I remember when I was learning English in elementary school, for me, English teaching is seen as the teaching of knowledge. It is often the teacher speak and the students listen. In this mode, students do not have the space for their own thinking, they can only passively listen, and there is no effective interaction between teachers and students. In contrast, the “student-centered” teaching model has been widely adopted by the mainstream education. It is a kind of constructivism classroom.

Constructivism is a concept of learning developed on the basis of cognitivism. It believes that student learning is a process of building new cognitive structures based on previous knowledge and experience. It advocates that learning is the process by which learners actively construct their own knowledge and experience. In addition, constructivism emphasizes the initiative, practicality, and creativity of learning. (Jia, 2010) Constructivist learning theory has far-reaching and positive implications for many aspects of education. In the student-centered classroom, what to teach, how to teach, when to teach, and how to evaluate should be determined according to the student’s situation.
